• Helen Hardwicke), Clerk

    Helen spent her early years in the South Hams before working in Cornwall and Somerset. She returned in 1996 and started work at SHDC where she had a variety of roles including homelessness and temporary housing acquisitions and most recently the Localities team . Helen retired in 2025 to care for her elderly parents. Alongside this she took up the role of Parish Clerk – a role she had experience of a few years ago in St Eval, Cornwall and Pilton, Somerset. In her spare time you are likely to meet her puppy walking for the Guide Dogs.

    Here are our councillors who make up the Parish Council. Rather than delegated responsibilities as we are a small council, councillors work together on tasks as and when they arise, often as a joint effort.

  • Diana Jones

    After holidaying in Devon for many years, Diana moved to the South Hams permanently in 2013 with her husband Alan and son Ollie. Prior to this she ran a graphic design and events company for 20 years in South London . Her hobbies include pottery, basket making, walking and gardening. Diana joined the council in 2016.

  • Dan Bridger

    Dan Bridger is a retired NHS GP. He moved to the area in 2000 and has lived in Goveton since 2002. He is married to Gail , who was a nurse working at South Hams Hospital. They have 2 sons who were at Kingsbridge Community College.

  • Anne Brunner-Ellis (Mathys)

    Anne grew up and went to school in Exeter. After working in Oxford for 30 years she moved back to Devon to join her partner, Jonathan. As well as working as a freelance writer, she can often be seen walking, riding or swimming when not working in her garden. Anne joined the Council in 2020.

  • Susan Bowern

    Sue has lived in the South Hams since 1988 following a move from Wiltshire with her husband Philip and came to Goveton in 2022. She has worked for many years in travel marketing and PR and continues to works as a freelance content writer. Sue and Philip have two daughters. Sue joined the Council in 2026.

  • Stephen Page

    Stephen attended Kingsbridge School and following college in London has worked in the corporate and private sectors valuing and selling hotels in the South West. Having lived in Devon for most of his life, he is a keen sailor and walker – with his family dog, Darcey. Although retired from full-time work, he is an ardent protector of the wonderful South Hams countryside.
